Take off of Pheasant-Tailed Jacana ( Hydr0phasianus chirurgus )
When we started off our trip to BR Hills, we had huge expectations in terms of photography and spotting exotic wildlife. We had started off from Bangalore at 5:00 AM. Cruising along Kollegal route, we spotted this lake filled with lilies and immediately it struck to our mind that there might be a possibility of PTJ's in the lake. We stopped to take a look at it. It was around 6:40 AM and sweet light of the sun was behind us. After couple of minutes I spotted this lovely PTJ fishing!! Knowledge of the bird's habitat definitely paid off!

Superb action shot, Pramod. We're so used to seeing jacanas just 'chilling out' in lakes doing particularly nothing but posing pretty, that it's such a pleasant change to see them in 'action'. Also, you're very right about understanding bird habitat and behaviour being the key to good photography. Way to go!
